Spacing and Interleaving

Do not finish a system and abandon it. Build in spaced review by revisiting each system's key facts at roughly three, seven, and fourteen days after first exposure. Interleave systems within question blocks rather than doing single-topic blocks exclusively, since Step 1 questions do not announce which system they are testing.

Common Pitfall

Spending the first two weeks almost entirely on video review or rereading, and pushing question practice to the back half of dedicated time. This compresses retrieval practice into too short a window and leaves error patterns undiscovered until it is too late to fix them. Start mixed question practice on day one, even if scores are low initially; the goal early on is exposure and error identification, not performance.

When reviewing a missed question, do not stop at "the answer was X." Re-derive the full reasoning chain from the vignette to the answer choice, including why each distractor was wrong. This single habit, applied consistently, produces more score improvement than adding extra content resources.
